 The Prefecture of Grevena blessed from nature, with incomparable natural beauty and rich cultural reserve, has connected its name with wild beauties, incredible alternations of landscapes, legends and traditions. It occupies the southwestern part of Western Macedonia, a mountainous region with very tall mountains abundant in pines, beech trees and Balkan pines, with warm, hospitable people, with notable history and tradition and important struggles.
The Prefecture has a rich and unique variety of forests, aquatic resources, the beautiful National Park “Valia Calda” - with a rare beauty of flora and fauna -, the Skiing Centre of “Vasilitsa”, Monuments, Byzantine and Post byzantine Churches, Stone Bridges, unique samples of popular architecture, Rivers and Landscapes that are breathtaking for the visitor. We therefore must respect, protect and deliver this priceless gift to our children without interventions so that they will have the opportunity to get to know it and appreciate it.
By respecting the Environment, the natural beauties, the rich cultural heritage we plan the sustainable tourist growth of our Region. Tourism can become the means that will lead Grevena to a new course of growth and will create new prospects towards this direction.
In the following pages an important effort has been made to present this natural wealth, giving thus the opportunity to the whole world to learn about the natural environment of the Prefecture of Grevena.
