The region of Prefecture of Grevena constitutes a part of the Pindos mountain range, is characterized by the immensely productive forests of conifers and broadleaves and the abundant waters that run from the snowy tops of the mountains.

The fauna of the region is characterized by the presence of big mammals, such as the wolf, the bear, the wild boar, the deer and the wild goat. The region of Vasilitsa is included in the national list of protected regions of the network (Natura 2000).

In the mountainous streams of the region a considerable number of mountainous trout is found , while in drakolimnes (dragon lakes) the region, Alpine (tritones). The Alpine meadows of the region are the most important regions for predatory. One significant advantage of the region is Valia Calda( Warm valley) and the Pindos National park that encompass it. Another, not so much known valley but equally impressive, is Valia Kirna where someone can enjoy the view of a waterfall that supplements the rich mosaic of nature.

The region of Spileo and the Mountain Orliakas constitute a Place of Particular Natural Beauty.

The National Vasilitsa Skiing Centre is one from the most beautiful skiing centers in Greece that keeps snow till spring. Within the ski resort one can find :
  1. two ski lifts covering a distance of 1.800m
  2. three cable ski lifts
  3. baby-lift covering a distance of 350m
  4. 12 ski slopes covering a distance of 7.500m
  5. the biggest slope of beginners in Greece (3.860m)
  6. slope for snow board
  7. instruction schools where you can also rent equipment
  8. two “Chalet” for day and a hostel.

You can also visit the six big monasteries and lots of other post byzantine monuments ,such as the 17 stone bridges located in old paved streets that connected Macedonia with Epiros. The town of Grevena has unique findings in the geological and paleontologic research. Recent excavation in the Milia region brought to light the biggest perhaps tusks in the world, (4,39 m.long). These belong to proboskidota, age of 3.000.000 years with a height of approximately 4,5 m and weight bigger than 12 tonnes.
